Week 15. where do we go
It is fascinating exploring the conversations about the future of libraries that are taking place on the web. We can explore through conventional library information sites and through the blog sites that are increasing in numbers. I think the person that said Library 1.0 was a service and Library 2.0 is an experience = equating to Web 1.0 being static and Web 2.0 being interactive, is spot on. As library staff embrace Web 2.0 and translate libraries into Library 2.0 the possibilities are sky high. However, we must not loose sight of the basic foundation principle of libraries being a freely accessible community space, neutral territory, offering all people access to services and experiences they would not otherwise be able to participate in or afford. The library is becoming the heartbeat of free community interpersonal experiences, especially when the only other large public areas that anyone can wander into without expectations seem to be giant shopping centres.
